The song is awesome and really powerful. It foretells the second rise of Sheryl Nome who shall overcome the unwashed masses’ paedophilic preference for young green-haired loli klutz and retake her rightful place as the star of the show. XD
It will be out on 20th August as the B-side of the new OP single, “Lion”. Even if you are a Ranka fanboy—shame on you Omo—you shouldn’t miss this wonderful CD! I can’t wait to listen to the new opening theme too. (Although Maaya is still much loved.)
The first pressings are all sold out, but you still can preorder the regular version from CD Japan or Amazon. Of course, I already have my first press copy preordered some time ago. :)

Musically speaking, this song blows whatever we have heard so far, way out of the water; It just is at another level above everything we have heard so far from Macross Frontier unless they will run the original soundtrack of First Macross movie,’ Love, Remember? ‘. It is hard to foretell whether this will mean rebirth of Sheryl, story wise, but unless Ranka sings something new, this is as find a ‘musical revenge’ as we can get for Sheryl’s fan.
Sheryl really gets me in a pinch here. I love her but I’m a Haruhi-ist too. so what do I do now? when worsphiping Sheryl has to be monotheistic it seems I have to convert…

I will not argue about which song is better. Northern Cross song involves more change of pace, mood, and ‘vocalization’, thus I believe would be harder song to perform successfully. In another word, it is more difficult song, not better song, and if we are to compare Ranka and Sheryl’s fictional singing ability in Macross world, I would present this song as proof that Sheryl is more skilled and confident singer. Please again, just because somebody is technically better doesn’t mean that somebody is better: this is an argument that is one of central motive in the famous series ‘Glass Mask’.

@Yukiruchan: DM can’t start to blog Macross F because there’s almost nothing to rant about. I enjoy his CG entries because he states all the stupid/funny stuff of the show, I sometimes happen to overlook.

Damm, Sheryl definetely deserve more and as DM said she have to reclaim her position as main star :) She is the famous “Galactic Fairy” after all!
PS.: Since the beginning of the show i wondered if she will end up with Alto but now I’m starting to have the feeling that it doesn’t matter to me anymore and as there is no other “right” character for her I really wish that she will have at least her comeback as a very very important character in the show. ;)

I think Sheryl’s going to switch her career from pop idol superstar to mecha porn. There’s some lineart of Sheryl in an SMS flightsuit and helmet near the end of the ED. And immediately following, a VF-25 flies into the camera. The colored stripes on its wings don’t appear to match the colors of the four members of skull team that we’ve seen so far, though the bright glare makes it difficult to tell exactly what shade they are. The suggestion to me, at any rate (and I’ve been speculating on this for a while, actually), is that Sheryl’s going to join SMS as a pilot.
I also noticed it, but I think it is just another character design screenshot like others in the new ED. I have seen her in the pilot suit with the helmet at least twice during the show. And Sheryl is “The Songstress” in the first place, so there is no way they will make her the full time pilot :)

I don’t know if Sheryl will regain her title, but at the moment I’m not overly hopeful. Without saying too much, part of that comes from the “preview leaks” regarding the upcoming episodes (particularly episode 19). And unlike the Code Geass rumors, the ones about Macross Frontier have tended to be fairly accurate. There’s a sentence or two that’s been floating around regarding each of the episodes up through 21. People have been posting them over at Macrossworld, and they’ve been copied over at the episode list on Wikipedia by one of the Macrossworld members. Like I said, so far as I know they aren’t necessarily official. But they’ve been pretty accurate so far. And things aren’t looking good for the possibility of Sheryl regaining her title.
On the other hand, I don’t know that it’s necessarily such a bad thing given Macross precedent. Minmei’s the songstress of SDFM and DRYL, and Misa’s the one who got Hikaru. Basara’s the singer of Macross 7, and everyone hates him. So Sheryl gets Alto and Ranka gets the songstress title as the consolation prize?
I can live with that.
Frankly I can’t say I like the visuals they put alongside the song, and can’t really say anything about it being more interesting than the other songs so far without hearing the entire thing.
However, turning the Aimo song into a march made it seem flat, dull and boring. And they chose it to say she was the songstress?!!?
Just absurd. I honestly like it when Sheryl and Ranka sing Duets because their voices compliment each other in the songs to an extent that the backing music for the rest of the songs rarely does.
(Despite saying that I think there’s a few of the songs that do sound good in general and are well done. Some are just filler.)

Considering what happened in the original Macross, I’d say that this is the most likely ending because it avoids hard feelings on both sides. Being fresh and young(er), Ranka has a long road of self-discovery ahead of her, while Sheryl, being the more mature character, is probably more serious about Alto than Ranka’s infatuation.
That or Alto dies.

actually the best speculation would be that Ranka and Sheryl will end up singing together, a big hint would be all he duet songs we can hear during comercial cuts, and random scenes where they try and make Alto choose…

For the love of god Sheryltards could you turn down the smug even just a few notches? You lot make me want to see doujin of Sheryl raped by all the men in Frontier and discarded in a gutter to die somewhere while Alto points and laughs at her calling her a gaping slut, and I didn’t even hate her this hard at first. In the tv series, she’s almost useless. She spends all her time either hitting on Alto or being sickly, jealous, and pathetic. Her false bravado is also quite grating, but I was able to put up with it until I encountered the wild Sheryltard. This bitch is like Lady Gaga, everyone thinks she’s so awesome and talented and beautiful when in reality, she’s just another face in a vast sea. Characters like Sheryl are a dime a dozen, she doesn’t really bring anything new to the table. She is, the quinessential Tsundere type that I never really found appealing in the first place.
The movies basically had to rewrite history just to make her character more relevant to the actual story. Not to mention the Sheryl end was poorly written and poorly executed. If they were going to make Alto choose, they should have done it in the tv series. I was perfectly happy with the “no choice” end so people could imagine anything they wanted. I did not want the triangle resolved basically because of all the diehard shippers on both sides. I feared the “winning” ship would get big headed over it and that is exactly what happened. There is a reason most harems and triangles don’t get resolved in anime.
Make no mistake, I’m no frothing Ranka fan but her fans are easier to stomach than Sheryltards. It’s because of them that I’ve grown to hate Sheryl.
