I used to love Pokémon. I owned Red, Blue and Yellow and completed them at least a few dozen times, to the point that I memorized the walkthrough. I tried out Diamond recently on my DS, but despite clearly being a superior game in terms of gameplay diversity and production values, it doesn’t seem quite as interesting any more. I guess it’s the whole growing up thing.
So anyway, Nintendo has created a new line of apparels called Pokémon 151 for people like me. They are targeted at adults who miss the time when there was only 151 Pokémons but don’t want to be caught dead wearing those brightly-coloured Pikachu T-shirts that Nintendo sells.
They have four designs up on the site now: Hypno (Sleeper), Cubone (Karakara), Articuno (Freezer) and Mewtwo. Take a look.
Greetings Darkmirage,
I’d like to thank you for this. I’ll definitely be ordering “Sleeper” and perhaps “Freezer”. The great thing is that to most people it looks like a normal shirt, but to members of the old school Pokemon cult, it looks badass. Only problem I have is that the “Pokemon 151” at the back is a dead give away. That’s probably why I favour the Hypno shirt and the fact that he looks really creepy with those two children. I’m looking forward to seeing any more future designs that are created.
Also, could you please make more posts featuring apparel that doesn’t scream “I’M AN OBSESSIVE FAN OF JAPANESE ANIMATION!” and can subtly show you appreciation? Anyways, please continue your blog which I always look forward to.
Cheers,
Sammy
Pidget, Arbok, that’s all folks!
These look totally awesome. I just wish Nintendo was selling them in America.
Wow thanks, now I have another reason to spend more money this/next month. Sobs.
I miss Pokemon when they had only 151 Pokemon and not the 21382932 ones that they have now.
Wow
Karakara looks cool
Freezer looks plain awesome
And Mewtwo looks too nice, like the way that make use of the crown design
See this is where Nintendo were wrong before in terms of the war with Bandai a few years ago – Digimon grew up with the fans while Pokemon didn’t.
Good to see something like this now…
These actually looks pretty decent and ‘normal’ enough. cool
..makes me feel like playing my old game again…
Dude, I think you’re mistaking when it comes to the target audience. The measurements shown with the sizes are definitely not adult sizes.
So I doubt that any of us’d be able to wear them ;_; *sniff*
I still may get a few, to sew the pattern onto a bag or jacket.
@DarkMirage: I don’t think it’s about growing up and stuffs. After the first 2 generations, Pokemon starts to lose its originality. I finished Yellow, Crystal, Ruby and Fire Red but never manage to play even half of Diamond. Every games the same things happen, you choose your starter pokemon, fight some devil forces, capture some legendary pokemons, win all the GYMs and Elite 4. Crystal is the best pokemon game ever made IMO since it allows something new: Traveling between Johto and Kanto.
The price is rather steep, but considering how these designs can be worn without getting a “Hey, it’s Pokefreak” kind of comment, I guess getting one or two wouldn’t hurt.
I think no, cool pokémon is still pokémon…
I completely agree with you on Dimond, I just don’t have the endurance to Breed, EV train and grind/level up pokémon anymore. Plus everyone online uses hacks anyway, what’s the point?
The Cubone/Karakara one is awesome. When my steady income starts being..well, steady, I’m definetly gonna look into getting one. The Mewtwo one is a bit more obviously pokémon related, but I might still wear it for the more nerdy gatherings I attend (Smash Bros. parties possibly :D)
Cailin Coilleach:
Actually the website itself says that it’s targeted at adults who miss the good old days. The size is just Japanese size.
In before SO I HEAR YOU LIEK MUDKIPS
@ DarkMirage:
Yea, my bad… it’s been explained to me by a buddy who reads a bit of Japanese as well… The sizes would fit -japanese- adults, but not most Eurofolk and USAdians. *sigh* I guess I could still order some shirts and convert them into other cool stuff. :)
Wow niceeeee, too bad my pay is too measly for it and I don’t have time to wear it.
P.S I saw what is actually going on in your new banner. Naughty naughty!
Whoa the Cubone(Karakara) looks the best. But still i wont be buying. I wont spend almost $60 on just a t-shirt. Its against my principle.
These are nice but unfortunately I’m more into the 3rd/4th gen design pokes. Still I would proudly wear these if given as a gift, heheh.
Bad news…

They don’t ship overseas.
Gotta make more Japanese friends…
I’d buy these in a heartbeat (they ain’t cheap though). Between this and King of Games, Nintendo is keeping their better apparel in Japan.
Screw you Nintendo.
Karakara/Cubone looks awesome, but why are even t-shirts so bloody expensive, dammit!
you are not an adult yet, DM.
*whistles at the implications*
Awesome shirt designs, but yeah they cost too much, and no shipping.
Played yellow & red. I think pokemon was still awesome at crystal, silver and gold.
I belong to the target market!
huh those actually looks awesome.
might get Kodoko, it looks pretty cool.
If they make a shirt for Magikarp, I’d buy that. Magikarp, hit me up with a splash attack!

Digimon is better. LOL. I love the old day’s Pokemon. But not today’s Pokemon.
