Fate/Stay Night

Fate/Stay Night r0x0rs my s0x0rs! Ayako Kawasumi as Saber rocks! In fact, I’ll just declare it the best show of the season right now even though I haven’t had the time to watch anything else! (Level 42 Night Elf Rogue with a Striped Frostsaber mount, yay!)

Rin Tohsaka
*wub*

The start of the anime seems to be different from that of the game. As far as I remember, the game started with Saber pledging her allegiance to the player, which only takes place at the end of episode 2 of the anime. Then again, my knowledge of F/SN sucks and I’m really more of a Ayako fanboy. (Saber is fine too :P)

Saber and Emiya
Are you my master?

The story is about seven mages fighting one another to obtain the Holy Grail. The mages do not know the identities of one another. They summon Servants (which come in different varieties like Archer and Lancer) to fight for them. Ok, that’s about I all can tell from two episodes of raw anime. Wahahaha.

Saber and Emiya
Ayako-sama~~~

So anyway, the main character is a mage failure who’s only good at one spell. He witnesses a fight between two Servants and gets targetted for termination because mages do not want their existence to be known. With his sheer determination, and probably his Main Character’s Secret Hidden Superpower(tm), he accidentally summons Saber, said to be the most powerful of all Servant classes.

Saber
ZOMG Chikane flashbacks~!

Anyway, Ayako Kawasumi rocks. That is all.

On another note, I picked up Newtype Feb today. Sadly, Negima Vol.13 will only be coming in on Wednesday. Damn. Suzuka, though it has the same release date as Negima, will only reach here in a few weeks. Sigh.

Censored

Kinokuniya just called today to inform me that they are unable to bring in my order for School Days Sekai-hen because it failed to get pass the Singapore Censorship Board. Considering the number of actual pornographic Japanese novels on display at Kinokuniya, I am absolutely baffled by how the Censorship Board functions. Seriously, School Days is nothing compared to what Kinokuniya put on the shelves.

Maybe no one at the Censorship Board reads Japanese, so they judge the content of the books by their pictures. But then again, I did managed to order two Da Capo novels, containing a few HCG’s from the game as illustrations, from the very same Kinokuniya. Not to mention that I know for a fact that the branch at Liang Court has (or had) the Kotonoha-hen of School Days novel in stock.

So, I’ve come to the conclusion that my order was blocked because someone in the government hates me. I’m pretty sure that the insidious fiend plotting against me will find a way to intercept the book again even if I were to order it from Amazon JP. Shit, now I absolutely have to go to Japan in June, if only just to get this novel.

And they just had to inform me about this on Friday the 13th. Grrrr…

Super Robot Wars MX Portable

I bought Super Robot Wars MX Portable today.

The sad thing is that this requires 2.50 firmware minimum, which means that the time has come for me to upgrade my PSP and give up the benefits of piracy homebrews. Well, hopefully 2.50 gets cracked soon, since piracy game-backuping is pretty much dying anyway now that all the new and cool releases are starting to require 2.50 firmware.

Super Robot Wars MX Portable

The happy thing is that it’s a good game that’ll last me for some time and Ruri is in it!

I really want to get Comic Party Portable and Boku no Watashi Katamari Damacy too, but they will have to wait… (like, maybe months)

On another note, the shop was also selling Xbox 360 premium bundle with one game for S$860. The DOA4 demo running on HDTV resolution looked ZOMFG good. Holy shit. Too bad I’m not interested in a 360 and I lack a HDTV.

Overclock your PC with Cooking Oil

Feel free to try this at home.

Common sense dictates that submerging your high-end PC in cooking oil is not a good idea. But, of course, engineering feats and science breakthroughs were made possible by those who dared to explore the realms of the non-conventional. Members of the Munich-based THG lab are only too happy to confirm this fact. And not only did we find that our AMD Athlon FX-55 and GeForce 6800 Ultra equipped system didn’t short out when we filled the sealed shut PC case with cooking oil – but the non-conductive properties of the liquid coupled created a totally cool and quiet high-end PC, devoid of the noise pollution of fans. The PC case – or should we say tank – also offered a new and novel way to display and show off your PC components.

Shuffle! Ending

I took a break from WoW and watched the last episode of Shuffle! yesterday. I lurve the ending.

Lots of spoilers ahead.

Asa-senpai runs away to the place where Rin confessed to her because she wants to see the place again before its too late. Rin finds her and asks her again to use magic so as to drain the magical powers that are bottling up in her human body and slowly killing her.

Asa-senpai
Asa-senpai~

Asa refuses once again, but this time Rin has a plan…

Wrist-slitting commencing in...
Blackmailing 101

He takes out a pen knife and slits his own wrist.

Blood
Remember kids: Mr. Razor crosses the road to get attention
but he goes down the street to do something

Shuffle! now lacks neither nudity nor blood and gore. Yay! Technically since he slits his wrist sideways by sliding the razor across, he shouldn’t be losing so much blood. It will at most leave a scar. The correct way to kill yourself is to press the razor downwards so that it digs into the flesh in a 45-degrees angle… But nevermind that.

Crying
Asa-senpai, pinch!

Asa watches Rin slowly lose consciousness. Rin contiunes to persuade her to use magic on his final breath…

Magic
Best. Scene. Ever.

She finally does so to save Rin. Her unbottled magical powers causes instant hair growth (?). And they live happily ever after.

Primula
From nekomimi to meganekko

All the girls, including Primula, still continue to like him. So even though Rin has chosen Asa, the most beautiful girls in school still lust after him and prepare bentou etc for him. Which means that the only difference between the ending and the beginning of Shuffle! is that Asa now has long hair! (Oh wait, Ama is going to help her cut it soon… nevermind)

Still, I love the ending. ^_^

First Day

Just returned from the first day of hell a new school year. It’s the highlight of every year. Bestest day ever. I love school. School rocks.

But anyway, just one more year till I get out of this hellhole and move into the one next door. God bless escalator school promotion.

I know it’s a bit late, but I was busy playing WoW, so here’re my new year resolutions for 2006! Waaaai! In descending order of importance, we have:

  1. Pass JLPT level 1 with at least 80% check
  2. Hit level 60 in WoW and buy an epic mount check
  3. Trip to Japan in June with Pear (not the fruit) check
  4. Buy a PS3 before the year ends failed
  5. Buy a Yonah-based laptop (after the price drops to an acceptable range) check
  6. Stop making my penpal wait for weeks at a time for a reply semi-check
  7. Blog more oftenly check
  8. Watch more anime check
  9. Kill the creators of Da Capo Second Season
  10. Buy Da Capo II (I know, I know) check
  11. Do okay for Higher Chinese O’level examinations check
  12. Get a GPA of at least 3.8 by pulling up my maths by a bit failed
  13. Sleep more failed
  14. Translate Gunparade March episode 4…? lost cause

That is all. I do realize that most of my other resolutions are in direct conflict with No. 2… Oh well.

Confession

I haven’t been blogging much for the past few days… Common sense would dictate that I had been rushing to finish my holiday homework before the new school term begins. Well, common sense is wrong.

The truth is… I have been WoWing. That’s right, I did the unthinkable, I started playing World of Warcraft. Please forgive me. And no, I haven’t done my homework yet. My will is so weak. _|ï¿£|O

Anyway, look for me on US PVP server Detheroc under the nick Zephiris. Female Night Elf rogue. (No surprises there)

Zephiris

I’ll buy some better-looking equipment when I have the gold, but for now, beggers can’t be chosers. Most important priority now is to save up 100 gold (a shit load of money) to buy a mount at lvl 40, which I am 8 levels away from. I want a black Nightsaber! \o/ (Think Huntress from WC3)

So anyway, it being New Year’s Eve and all (yes, shockingly I haven’t forgotten about that!)… Happy New Years! Well, maybe not for me. Gotta’ start work soon.

Blu-Ray Region Coding

According to PS3 Updates, America, Japan and East Asia will share the same region code for Blu-Ray.

Here is some Christmas Day good news for you! IT Media has announced some details on the Blu-Ray region coding and it holds a nice surprise. Japan, North America, and East Asia will all be sharing one region code. This potentially means that American gamers will be able to import Japanese PS3 Blu-Ray games, and will definately be able to import Japanese Blu-Ray Anime/Movie titles without any hassle. Europe unfortunately will be sharing a region code with Africa so likely not much cross-gaming there. Sorry Europe, looks like you will be getting the gaming bone again. Oh and Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays to all from all of us here at GR!

Depending on their definition of “East Asia”, this could be a good thing for Singapore. ^^ No need for modchips for play any import PS3 games that matter. Europe, which has the same DVD region code as Japan, has been shafted this time round.

I can’t seem to find the original source article on IT Media, but if this is true, it could seal the deal for PS3. (Well, except in Europe…)

Christmas Physics

Best /. comment ever.

Santa Claus: An Engineer’s Perspective

I. There are approximately 2 billion children (persons under 18) in the world. However, since Santa does not visit children of Muslim, Hindu, Jewish, Jehovah’s Witnesses, or Buddist religions, this reduces the workload on Christmas night to 15% of the total, or 378 million (according to the Population Reference Bureau). At an average (census) rate of 3.5 children per household, that comes to 108 million homes, presuming that there is at least one good child in each.

II. Santa has about 31 hours of Christmas to work with, thanks to the different time zones and rotation of the earth, assuming he travels east to west (which seems logical). This works out to 967.7 visits per second. This is to say that for each Christian household with at least one good child, Santa has around 1/1000th of a second to park the sleigh, jump out, go down the chimney, fill the stockings, distribute the remaining presents under the tree, eat whatever snacks have been left for him, get back up the chimney, jump in the sleigh, and move on to the next house. (That’s why it’s really pointless to stay up and wait for him….)

Assuming that each of these 108 million stops is evenly distributed around the earth (which, of course, we know to be false, but will accept for the purposes of our calculations), we are now talking about 0.78 miles per household; a total trip of 75.5 million miles, not counting bathroom breaks. This means that Santa’s sleigh is moving at 650 miles per second, 3000 times the speed of sound. For the purposes of comparison, the fastest man-made vehicle, the Ulysses space probe, moves at a pokey 75.4 miles per second, and a conventional reindeer can run (at best) 15 miles per hour.

III. The payload of the sleigh adds another interesting element. Assuming that each child has nothing more than a medium-sized Lego set (two pounds), the sleigh is carrying over 500 thousand tons, not counting Santa himself. On land, a conventional reindeer can pull nothing more than 300 pounds. Even granted that “flying” reindeer could pull ten times the normal amount, the job can’t be done with eight or nine of them; Santa would need 360,000 of them. This increases the payload, not counting the sleigh itself, another 54,000 tons, or roughly seven times the weight of the Queen Elizibeth (the ship, not the monarch).

IV. 600,000 tons traveling at 650 miles per second creates enormous air resistance; this would heat up the reindeer in the same fasion as a spacecraft re-entering the earth’s atmosphere. The lead pair of reindeer would absorb 14.3 quintillion joules of energy per second each. In short, they would burst into flames almost instantaneously, exposing the reindeer behind them and causing deafening sonic booms in their wake. The entire reindeer team would be vaporized within 4.2 thousandths of a second, or right about the time Santa reaches the fifth house on his trip. Not that it matters, however, since Santa, as a result of accelerating from a dead stop to 650 miles per second in .001 seconds, would be subjected to centrifugal forces of 17,500 G’s. A 250 pound Santa (which seem ludicrously slim) would be pinned to the back of the sleigh by 4,315,015 pound of force, instantly crushing his bones and organs and reducing him to a quivering blob of pink goo.

V. Therefore, if Santa did exist, he’s dead now.

lol.

Merry Christmas

Merry Christmas! Happy Holidays! Etc.

Merry Christmas

For the record, I’ve never celebrated Christmas before. Also, Christmas means that the new school year will start soon and I have to stop wasting my time away posting useless blog entries like this.

Bah, humbug.
