Lucky Star Licensed

Uh, what? Okay, so Kadokawa USA decided to skip the pre-license tease and get straight to the announcement this time. The R1 release of Suzumiya Haruhi no Yuuutsu Vol.4 contained a short translated clip from Lucky Star episode 16.

Gundam 00 — Episode 4

I just love Gundam 00 episode 4. It’s highly politically charged and it has all the girls the series has to offer in one convenient 24-minutes package. What more can one ask for?

Well, it’s going offline permanently because I have transferred away all rights to the domain. I am not allowed to reveal the identity of the domain’s new owner. (Even though it’s kind of obvious…*cough*) You can still view the terrible video I made on YouTube. Ah, that was a blast. Amusingly, Lelouch Zero continues to receive MySpace friend invites even now.

I am sure the new owner will do great things with it, so do check out the new site when it’s up. ;)

Gundam 00 — Nyoro~n Translation Errors

I was quite alarmed by a comment posted by tsuki_Yomi in my previous entry. His understanding of the relationship between Ptolemaios and Gundams in Gundam 00 appears to be the complete opposite of what episode 3 revealed. I decided that some fansub group must have done everyone a huge disfavour and since Nyoro~n is the only group that has released so far (as of this posting)…

So yeah, here’s a comparison of all the major translation errors in episode 3 released by Nyoro~n Fansubs. Of course since I do translation checking for Mendoi-Conclave, you can say that I have a vested interest in doing this comparison. But keep in mind that I didn’t make anything up and all the errors are really there when you watch their release. Enjoy.

Gundam 00 — Episode 3

Episode 3 just aired in Japan about four hours ago. It mainly focuses on plot development and background information, so there isn’t much fighting going on, despite what the end of episode 2 might have led you to believe.

Plug-and-Play SATA HDD Rack

I’ve been looking for something like this for a long time. This is something that will change lives forever. It’s a USB 2.0 rack for 2.5″ and 3.5″ SATA harddisk drives. Akihabara News uploaded a video of it in action.

It takes advantage of SATA’s hot-swapping support and offers a very convenient and well-designed dock for your HDD. It lets you slot a HDD in and access the files on it without having to undo any screws or unplug anything. Essentially, it’s like a drive…for harddisk drives! External USB disk enclosures are not uncommon, but this really makes it so much more convenient.

I shall get one of this and never buy another DVD+R again. I can just buy more HDD and use them like floppy disks! LOL. US$47 from GeekStuff4U.

The reason why Mendoi-Conclave is awesome!

Disclaimer: I work for Mendoi-Conclave. In fact, I translated episode 2 of Gundam 00 due to circumstances (although I won’t be doing main translation for future episodes). Anyway, here are two screenshots.

The top on is from episode 2’s raw while the bottom one is from our awesomerific (I’m using this word a lot recently) 1280×720 release. (It’s worth the extra 170MB!) Can’t see the difference? Click on them to see the bigger version.

And that is why we were slower than the other groups for episode 2. We’ll be faster next time. :P

Gundam 00 episode 2 is awesome!

As expected, the series is very heavily influenced than contemporary military and political events. (Although it’s kind of doubtful that the political situation will remain so consistent for the next three hundred years when you consider how much has changed in the last three hundred.)

It’s like when you watch Lucky Star and go “ZOMG COOL” when the characters make a reference to some obscure game, except that Gundam 00 (G00) does it with CNN headlines. It’s like a crash course on modern politics, and it’s quite timely too considering the whole Iraq debate that’s been making its rounds in Japan’s Diet.
