Gundam 00 — Episode 15

This is one predictable episode. I mean, the title “Broken Wings” pretty much spoils any element of suspense that Sunrise’s scriptwriters can possibly muster, assuming they try at all.

Gundam 00

So yeah, the Gundams all get owned in a spectacular fashion, clearing the way for newer and better Gundams to take over the mess. G00, like most recent Gundams, is really just a series of 25-minute weekly commercials promoting Gunpla.

Also, Liu Mei in se-ra-fuku. :O

Anime DVD industry approaching limit

Anime! Anime! has an article up about the lack of growth in Japan’s anime DVD industry. (Link is in Japanese.)

Hiro Suzuhira

The article focuses on DVD sales in particular, which traditionally does quite well in Japan. It also makes some comparisons to overseas markets such as North America and briefly mentions Singapore.

Surprisingly, opinions voiced in the discussion thread at 2ch (as reported by Itai News) were actually very critical of the industry, particularly over the high cost of R2 anime DVDs. I find this interesting because 2ch is generally full of right-wing xenophobic nationalists, so I was expecting them to jump at this chance to blame foreign pirates for destroying the livelihoods of Japanese studios.

Gundam 00 — Episode 14

This episode is quite interesting. It’s a build-up for the huge battle that is coming soon, so there’s a whole bunch of talking and I like talking episodes, as long as it’s not mostly teenage angst.

Gundam 00

There are some new characters and background information about the G00 universe being introduced, and also, we have the new OP and ED. I love the new ED! The new OP is fine I guess.

Sunset

It’s been about a week since I returned from Tokyo. School’s back in full-swing after two months of being sealed in an alternate dimension. This is going to be one busy year…

Tokyo

The one thing that really feels different about being back in Singapore, other than climate, is the sunset. The picture above was taken in Tokyo at 3pm in the afternoon. For late-waking bums like yours truly, the winter days in Tokyo were over before they even began. Daytime seemed to last only five hours, from 11am (setting-out time) to 4pm (sunset).

It’s now 7.30pm in Singapore and the sun is still faintly visible in the horizon outside my window. The difference is especially jarring because Singapore’s official time zone is one hour ahead of its actual geographical location, making the sunset later than it should be.

It’s quite interesting what the international time zone system has done to some of our perceptions of time. Anyway, this has been a pointless post.

Gundam 00 — Episode 13

Oww. My head is spinning. I think I’ve been sleeping too much these days after coming back from Japan.

Gundam 00

Episode 13 serves to conclude the Azadistan chapter, laying the way for the new OP/ED next episode.

Comiket 73 – Part III: Random Shots

I’m back in Singapore. I had fever yesterday. Gao. Anyway, I sorted through my photos and I realized that they were quite shitty. I blame it all on the lighting.

Comiket 73

Because Japanese are completely asinine about getting their photos taken, and because the Comiket committee has my URL and I don’t want to get blacklisted, I went through the trouble of mosaicking all the faces.

Comiket 73 – Part II: Loot

I’m back from the last day of Comiket. I took a ton of pictures today with my press pass but I will only be posting them at a later date. First, I shall go through my spoils.

Comiket 73

I spent less than expected at Comiket, probably because I already bought a ton of random doujinshi from specialty stores. Some pictures are NSFW. (Basically the T2 Art Works stuff.)

Comiket 73 – Part I

I finally found some time to sort through my pictures and scrape together enough content for a short post. This is a report of the first two days of Comiket 73 to give you a general idea what it was like.

Comiket 73

I will be posting a more detailed report only after I return from Japan, mainly because I don’t have a lot of photos yet and I will only be able to take more tomorrow. (Photography is technically prohibited in all areas except the designated cosplay zone.)

School Days Train Stations

It’s my sixth day in Tokyo. I spent the whole of last night standing in the rain at near-zero temperature for about 9 hours. Comiket is insanity. But I’ll talk about that in its own post. Yesterday, I took a trip down to the centre of Tokyo Prefecture, in Kokubunji, a boring place that no sane tourist would visit.

School Days Train Station

I went there in search of two of the train stations featured in the popular bishoujo game and anime series, School Days. It’s 2D meets 3D!

Lucky Star in Saitama

Today was almost as tiring as yesterday because I had to lug my 2.5kg laptop around. An EEE PC would really come in handy when I’m traveling.

Tokyo Day 3

It’s the fourth day of our little adventure in Tokyo and we took a trip to neighbouring Saitama prefecture to visit Konata’s favourite Gamers and Animate branches. Long story short: Saitama isn’t a very exciting place.
