Haruhi and Gundam 00

Three packages just arrived this week. As usual, I had totally forgotten their existence.

Money

Apparently some time during the past few months, I found it within me the sudden urge to preorder both the PS2 and PSP Haruhi game releases, despite the fact that I didn’t actually own a PSP at that point of time. (I do now.) Wow, this is sort of like receiving a belated birthday present from an unknown stranger who broke into my bank account to pay for it.

More pictures after the break.

Gundam 00 — Episode 19

I’m dead tired. I spent the whole of Friday and Saturday directing traffic for this silly parade thing and reached home at 1am for two consecutive nights, and I didn’t even get to see the parade. Sigh.

Gundam 00

Episode 19 is pretty damn boring and the only high point is the new insert song LOVE TODAY by Taja. But meh, I guess at least the Trinitys didn’t talk too much.

Nana Mizuki – Dancing in the velvet moon

Dancing in the velvet moon

Dancing in the velvet moon is one of the songs on Nana Mizuki’s new mini album STARCAMP EP, and it also happens to be the ED theme to Rosario + Vampire‘s unbearably fanservicy anime adaptation, which, I shall once again take the opportunity to remind everyone, is a travesty to the awesome page-turner that is the original manga.

Lyrics translation and more fanboying after the break.

Gundam 00 — Episode 18

This post was delayed because I was at three separate Chinese New Year-related social functions over the 24-hour span of period between 8am Saturday and 8am Sunday. I only reached home this morning. But fret not, for this sudden spontaneous generation of what is common known as a “life” is an extremely rare occurrence that will probably not happen again for quite some time.

Gundam 00

Anyway this episode was pretty good except for the fact that my brain was functioning like a half-dead zombie’s as I watched it. Or perhaps that was the reason. Either way, it’s a nice evasion from what had seemed like an inevitable descend into Destiny-ville.

Why I Love and Hate Linux

For no particular reason, I decided to install Linux to a new disk partition today. It’s been a while since my last encounter with the OS (some ancient version of Gentoo) and things have changed a lot.

Ubuntu

Linux’s graphical interface is no longer so ugly that you have to hide it behind a black command prompt and call it “non-bloated and functional”. In fact, a Linux installation that is customized to perfection has the most beautiful GUI eye candies ever known to computing outside of Hollywood movies.

Take a look at this video demonstration if you don’t believe me.

The Brilliant Green – Ash Like Snow

the brilliant green - Ash Like Snow

Ash Like Snow is the second OP theme to Gundam 00. I was never a fan of the brilliant green and I still think that this song doesn’t feel OP-ish, but the lyrics are great and the booklet art has Tomoko sitting on Kaneda’s bike while holding an orange Haro, and that’s pretty awesome in my book.

Lyrics translation and more after the break.

Gundam 00 — Episode 17

Wow cool, I actually found this episode to be pretty enjoyable, not because the writing suddenly took a turn for the better or anything (it didn’t), but because it’s just hilariously entertaining.

Gundam 00

Now I may sound like I’m being sarcastic as usual, but I seriously enjoyed the sheer campiness of this episode. It’s kind of hard to describe, but at the risk of over-simplication: the episode’s so bad that it’s good. LOL.

Stephanie – Friends

By my usual post-title-naming convention, this entry should have been “Gundam 00 – Friends”, but I decided that G00 isn’t worthy of this song. Also, I think I have more than enough entries on that as it is.

Stephanie - Friends

So anyway, I translated the full lyrics of Stephanie’s latest song Friends, which also happens to be the ending theme to a certain super robot anime that shall remain unnamed. I like this song.

Gundam 00 — Episode 16

Gundam 00

The cardinal laws of Gundam story-telling: When things go wrong, it just means that it’s time to throw new Gundams at them, and when animators fall behind schedule, it’s time to do a recap episode and disguise it as real content.

Arisa Mizuhara Interview

Arisa Mizuhara

If you were keeping up with my C73 coverage, you would know that I had the pleasure of meeting Arisa Mizuhara live on day three.

Arisa Mizuhara

For those of you who are oblivious to who she is, Arisa Mizuhara (水原ありさ) is one of the greatest cosplayers ever. (Even Danny agrees with me.) I’ve been a fan of hers for some time and it was quite a fanboy moment to meet her in the flesh at Comiket.

Anyway, I recently contacted her and requested for an online interview. She gracefully agreed and answered twenty questions provided by me. The interview was actually conducted over a week ago, but it took me some time to get around to translating the responses. Read them after the break!
