AFA08 Press Preview

AFA08

I attended the press preview for Anime Festival Asia 08 today. The actual event starts tomorrow at 9am. The preview itself consisted of a short tour around the booths that were being set up and a press conference to introduce the invited guests.

Note: This post is backdated because it took longer than expected to upload a 25-minute video to YouTube…

Gundam 00 S2 — Episode 07

Gundam 00

What a sweet episode. Things seldom go so smoothly in a Gundam storyline full of misunderstandings and betrayals, at least not till the grand finale. Then again, this may just be a setup for the next emotional free fall. As one learns from experience, it’s never a good idea to invest your feelings and expectations in a fictional character. Well, except for the ones I love. They would never betray my feelings.

Nagi’s Virginity

Gundam 00

I recently started watching Kannagi after reading about the 2ch shitstorm over the main female lead’s alleged past sexual experience. You can read more about this dorama over at Sankaku Complex. The gist of the matter is that Nagi may or may not be Negi in disguise a virgin because she apparently has an ex-boyfriend! Also, she’s not even human so it reminds to be determined if the concepts of virginity and copulation even apply to her. In any case, this revelation in the manga’s plot development led to a firestorm of otaku rage and book tearing.

Oh, the humanity.

Gundam 00 S2 — Episode 06

Gundam 00

Perhaps someday history will look back to the 21st century and cite Gundam 00 as a cinematic masterpiece of our time, a work of pure literary genius not fully appreciated in an era of barbarism and ignorance. Maybe the SQL server that hosts my blog will someday be unearthed by digital archaeology robots and I will forever be remembered as the Great Evil who sprouted weekly blasphemy, polluting the minds of an entire generation, and obstructing the legacy of the greatest creative work ever produced by humanity.

Then again, pretty much all other works of fiction must spontaneously disintegrate and memories of them erased from our collective DNAs in order for that improbable dystopia to materialize.

Acer Aspire One

I’ve been thinking of getting a netbook since the original ASUS EEE PC, the granddaddy of netbooks, reared its tiny 7″ screen into this world and some Intel marketing serf came up with the term “netbook”, which by the way makes zero sense when you stop to think about it.

Aspire One
I blame this one on moyism

I’m glad I waited a full year for the ensuing orgy of product announcements to peak before making my choice, because Aspire One is the best purchase I’ve ever made. It also has a superior product name compared to its major competitors. (Dell E? EEE PC? WTF?)

Gundam 00 S2 — Episode 05

Gundam 00

This is hands down the most boring episode so far. Maybe next episode will be more exciting when Marina and Setsuna die in a fiery plane crash. I’m so hungry and sleepy.

May’n Interview and VIP Tickets

The e-mail interview with May’n is now up on the official AFA ’08 site. Thanks to everyone who submitted questions! Of course, not all your questions could be answered as May’n is a very busy star who enjoys taiyaki and pancakes, but 14 of them were!

May'n

If you haven’t already read about it on other blogs by now, details on the VIP tickets for May’n’s life performance are out on the official site. (Normal AFA ticket holders will be able to enjoy the concert from less optimal positions.) Diamond VIP tickets, which get you an autograph and a handshake from May’n in addition to front row seats, will sell for S$118 (80 USD), while regular VIP tickets go for S$68 (46 USD). They will be on sale through the website starting from 1st November.

Gundam 00 S2 — Episode 04

Gundam 00

Meh. It’s an okay episode. Slightly less interesting than playing Macross Ace Frontier, but definitely better than watching paint dry. If I have to rank this episode on the scale of one to five, it’s a koala bear. It’s cute and all, but no one goes to the zoo just to see a bunch of tree-hugging furbags.

Gundam 00 S2 — Episode 03

Gundam 00

I watched this episode last night in a semi-comatose state so I can’t remember anything about it now. Luckily, I had the foresight to save the screencaps first, so now I can simply extrapolate the episode’s plot based on 26 still images and fill in the gap with my extraordinary mastery of Gundam storytelling. It’s like reading a manga without speech bubbles.

May’n Email Interview

I am helping AFA08 compile a list of questions from fans in Singapore (and other English-speaking countries) to send to May’n. She has gracefully agreed to answer them through email correspondence.

I will be sending the questions in both English and Japanese and the event organizers will help to edit and forward them to May’n. I will be translating her replies and the final result will be posted in both languages on the official website.

So, if you have anything you want to ask May’n, please submit your questions through the form on the official site. The deadline is Wednesday, 22nd October 2008.

UPDATE: The interview is up on the official site.
